INTERPRETATION/SYMBOLISM OF THE UNIT LOGO:

            The unit Motto is the “D” PATH FINDER – Finding, Fighting and Fixing the enemy with its flying and lighting Sword signifying swiftness and rapid reaction of deployment traversing the Division AOR as the cutting edge striking a given mission throughout the Region.

SHIELD – represent the unit as a whole being a defender and protector of the people
.

FLYING SWORD – represent the unit’s gallantry, steadfast and rapid reaction and its readiness to strike the enemy of the state.

STARS – represent the six (6) Provinces of Region VIII

BLACK LINE signify the unit as the cutting  edge traversing the Division AOR as DRC.

LIGHTING – signifies and fast reaction of the unit to strike and to find, fight and fix the enemy in a given objective.

            The SHIELD is colored green which symbolizes fertility and riches of the natural marine resources of the six (6) provinces and also the official color of the Philippine Army. The LYING SWORD is colored white which represent sincerity in serving SOD, COUNTRY and PEOPLE. Also symbolizes purity and intentions of the 83RC HANDLE OF THE SWORD AND CUTTING EDGE is colored Black which rendered by 83RC in accomplishing its assigned task/mission. The BORDER LINE is colored golden yellow which represents the golden heart of the 83RC personnel towards the people and country to serve.

UNIT HISTORY OF 83RD DIVISION RECONNAISSANCE COMPANY



            On 24 May 2000, the 83rd Recon (Provisional) Company was first organized by the 8th Infantry Division, Pa under GO number 148 dtd 17 may 2000 with the total strength of 33 Enlisted personnel and 1 officer headed by the late MAJ DANILO T BILLON (INF) PA stationed at Brgy San Eduardo, Sta Rita, Samar to support the other Military unit in the region 8 in confronting the CPP/NPA insurgents and this server as the Division Ready reserve and striking Force.

            On 16 August 2000, the 83rd RC was dissolved. Its Personnel and equipment were merged to Hqs Task Force LEYSAM, 8ID, PA station at Sitio Cantaba, Brgy Caticugan, Sta Rita, Samar under the leadership of late COL MATEO B BARRION JR GSC (INF) PA and at the month of January. 2001. This unit was transferred to Camp Downes, Ormoc City and lasted until August 16 2001.

Before this unit was dissolved there were significant event that contributed the peace and order situation in some part of Leyte especially during the election period that our unit serve as the moderator and pacifier between the different political rivalries done by some politician in its Area of Operations.

            Sometimes on January 2001, some elements of Task Force LEYSAM apprehended six (6) DT’s at Brgy Cambadbad, Matag-ob, Leyte resulted to the recovery of Three (3) M16 Armalite Rifles with number of ammos and Magazine different belongings, equipments, Cellular Phone, Radio, Money and subversive documents with high Intelligence Value.

            On 16 August 2001, Task Force LEYSAM was dissolved all Officers was reassigned to the different unit of 8ID, PA and outside 8ID and some high ranking NCOs were also transferred to the other unit the remaining EPs were temporarily placed at HHSBn, 8ID, PA Camp Lukban, Catbalogan, Samar under the leadership of CPT NARZAN C OBUYES (INF) PA with his EX-O 2LT RODITO A GOTLADERA (CAV) PA and were retrained at Camp Daza, Brgy Fatima, Hinabangan, W. Samar.

After the attack in Motiong, Samar on 05 May 2002, this unit was temporarily placed at Motiong, Samar to conduct hot pursuit operation to CPP/NPA terrorist that conducted with to the PNP station of said Municipality.

            After a few weeks, this unit was transferred at Brgy Camarubuan, Jiabong, Samar on 15 May 2001 but during the chaos and offensive that by MILF ABUSAYAFF in Mindanao the 52IB and 14IB, 8ID, PA were brought to Mindanao and thus caused the very wide area of operation peace by the remaining unit in Eastern Samar.

The Hqs, 8ID, PA ordered that the unit be temporarily placed at Dolores, Eastern Samar on 08 June 2002 to manned different Army Detachment of Oras, Arteche, Dolores, Can-avid, Maslog and other far flung areas of Eastern Samar at the same time, 83rd RC was able to control the peace and order situation during the Brgy and SK election thereat.

            On 03 August 2002, this unit went back to Brgy Caticugan So. Cantaba, Sta Rita, Samar from Dolores, Eastern Samar. On 17 March 2003 more or less 150 terrorist conducted attacked/ Raid to the Municipality of Calbiga W Samar particularly to the PNP station and this unit immediately conduct reinforcement and hot pursuit operation thereat.
           
On 17 April 2003, this unit was move from Brgy Caticugan So. Cantaba to Calbiga, Samar and established its Company Command Post thereat and lasted on 16 October 2003.

            After the 52IB, 14IB and 62IB, 8ID, PA went back from Mindanao to the AOR of 8ID, the 83rd Recon was activated as regular Reconnaissance Company of 8ID, PA pursuant to GO number 112 dtd 19 March 2003.

Sometimes on 17 October 2003, this unit move again from Calbiga, Samar to Brgy Abuyogon, Burauen, Leyte and Placed OPCON with 802 Bde, 8ID, PA and on 27 September 2004, the unit pulled out from Brgy Abuyogon, Burauen Leyte and established its Command Post at Brgy Balanti, Basey W. Samar under the leadership of CPT OSCAR P PARTUZA (INF) PA.

            On 27 September 2004, this unit pulled out from Brgy Abuyogon, Burauen Leyte and established its Company Command Post at Brgy Balante, Basey W. Samar. The unit was again placed OPCON to 801st Infantry (Bantay at Gabay) Brigade, 8ID, PA where its primarily focus is Internal Security Operation in the area of Sta. Rita-Basey complex confronting Southern Samar Front 1 (SSF-1) under the able Leadership of CPT OSCAR P PARTUZA (INF) PA.

And on 12 July 2005, this unit was Relief-in- Placed by 46IB, 8ID, PA and subsequently transferred and co-located at Brgy Fatima, Hinabangan Samar and act as ready reserve force of H801Bde, 8ID, PA under the able leadership of 2LT JAMES ALIVEN DS TARROZA (NF) PA as Officer-In-Charge with 2LT REYNALDO H HERMIDA (INF) PA as Executive Officer and 2LT ERWIN E FELONGCO (INF) PA AS Platoon Leader ready to move on orders.

On 02 February 2006, this unit pulled out from Brgy Fatima, Hinabangan Samar to Pob-1A, Motiong Samar and established its Command Post thereat.

This unit was then a hero for the people of Brgy. Guinsaugon, St Bernard So. Leyte for responding immediately and participating in the rescue, Retrieval and relief operation to the victims of landslides tragedy last 17 Feb 2006.

This unit also underwent a Company Refresher Training and has fully satisfied the requirements which were conducted at H8DTU, 8ID, PA last 10 March – 07 April 2006.

On 10 April 2006, after a 83DRC Company Refresher Trng conducted this unit was placed again at Motiong Samar to act as 801Bde, 8ID, PA ready reserve force and lasted at about 15 June 2006.

On 16 June 2006, this unit was moved from Motiong Samar to Brgy Hibod-hibod, Sugod So. Leyte and OPCON at 802Bde, 8ID, PA under the TACON of 43IB, 8ID, PA and lasted on 22 July 2006.
    
Sometimes on 22 July 2006, this unit was moved again from Brgy Hibod-hibod, Sugod So. Leyte and proceeded towards Brgy Abuyogon, Burauen Leyte and co-located and act as striking force of H802Bde, 8ID, PA under the able leadership of 1LT GUILLERMO T MABUTE JR (INF) PA which resulted to the recovery of several items and HPFAs during the conduct of combat operations in the AOR of 802BDE, 8ID,PA such as 1- M16,1- cal .45,1-garand,5-homemade shotgun,3-hand grenades,2- cal 38, several ammunitions and subversive documents and recovered several enemy encampment; and lastly assisted in the conduct of security in the just concluded  2007 National and Local election and Barangay and Sk election in some area of Leyte.

On 22 December 2007, this unit was moved again from Brgy Abuyogon, Burauen Leyte and placed at Brgy Gubang, Baybay City.

On 31 January 2008, this unit was Relief-in- Placed by “A” Coy, 19IB, 8ID, PA and subsequently transferred to Brgy Hibod-Hibod, Sogod So. Leyte to Relief-in- Placed 43IB, 8ID, PA and take over its Area of Operations and act as 802Bde, 8ID, PA ready reserve force.

At present the 83rd Reconnaissance Company 8ID, PA is composed of three (3) officers and one hundred (100) EP under the able leadership of 1LT ARIEL H MORALEJO (INF) PA as Commanding Officer with 2LT DANILO P NIÑO (INF) PA as Executive-Officer and 2LT RAHA DOMINGO C GALAGNARA (INF) PA as Platoon Leader ready to move on orders and act as the striking Force of 802 Bde , 8ID, PA to conducts sustained internal security operation (ISO) in support to 802ND Infantry Brigade ISO campaign to neutralize / destroy the political and armed structure of CPP / NPA / NDF in the Brigade’s AOR in order to attain peace, progress and sustainable development in the area.
