UNIT SEAL




81ST Recon Coy – the figure 8 stands for the 8th Infantry Division Philippine Army which is the direct mother unti of the company and the number 1st stands for the unit to be the first reconnaissance company organized in the division.

Shield Shaped Seal – stands for the unit being guardians of  freedom.

Diagonal Line – this is the Military symbol of a  reconnaissance Company as distinguished from an ordinary rifle company.

“SANGBISIG” – the official name chosen and voted for by the member of the unit which connotes in everything the unit does the word means one strong hand.

FIVE MOUNTAINS – stands for the five Islands the unit has so far conducted operations or been deployed. These are Samar, Lyte, Biliran, Bohol and Cebu.

LIGHTNING – stands for the unit being highly mobile. It also stands for the speed of the unit in all operations conducted that surprises the enemy.

EIGHT-RING CHAIN – stands for strong unity among members of the unit inspite of the personnel coming from the different Battalions of the Division.

LAUREL LEAVES – stands for professionalism which all the members of the unit should possess at all time.

HAND – the symbol connotes the units stronghold and control of the situation.

DEEP BLUE SEA – stands for the flexibility of the unit to tackle and undertake turbulent of serene situations just like the sea.
HISTORY OF 81ST RECON COY

            On September 1998, the 8th Division Strike Force 8th Infantry Division, Philippine Army organized as the striker platoon composed of one (1) officer and twenty eight (28) enlisted personnel’s under the command of CPT LENART MARIO R LELINA (INF) PA and stationed at Camp Lukban, Catbalogan, Samar.

            On 18 October 1998, the unit conducted combat strike operations together with 65th MICO somewhere in the hinterlands of Northern Samar and recovered three (3) M16A1 rifles, one (1) M14US rifle and voluminous subversive documents.

            On 12 November 1998, the unit was transferred at Brgy Santol, San Miguel, Leyte to augment the Task Force Leyte.

            On 15 November 1998, the re-designation the 8th Reconnaissance Company, 8th Infantry Division, Philippine Army activated in section I, General Orders Number 587 dated 16 November 1998 is hereby re-designated as the first 8th Reconnaissance Company, 8th Infantry Division, Philippine Army effective 15 November 1998 pursuant to para II General Order Number 370 H8ID, Philippine Army dated 16 August 1999.

            On 15 December 1998, the strike force platoon was conducted combat strike operations and successfully apprehend an unidentified DT’s leader with four (4) follower at vicinity Brgy Patag, Kananga, Leyte and recovered one (1) Homemade shotgun, one (1) Cal. 38 revolver and other combat paraphernalia’s.

            On 12 February 1999, the strike force platoon was elevated into a company which is composed of personnels from different line battalions was name 8th Reconnaissance Company.

            On 15 March 1999, 8th Reconnaissance Company was relocated at Brgy Caticugan, Sta Rita, Samr was renamed 81st Reconnaissance Company. MSg rolando G Abastillas (Inf) PA the most ranking NCO was designated as the company first sergeant waiting for deployment to Bohol.

            On 18 May 1999, the MSOT platoon of 81st Recon Company left Catbalogan, pier towards VISCOM, Camp Lapu-lapu Cebu City.

            On 07 June 1999, the remaining personnel of 81st Reconnaissance Company left Catbalogan, Samar on board Navy Vessel and arrived at VISCOM, Camp Lapu-lapu, Cebu City on same date.

            On 11 June 1999 81st Reconnaissance Company was deployed at Bohol province and placed OPCON Task Group Bohol, VISAYAS COMMAND stationed at Camp Dagohoy, Tagbilaran City.

            On 18 June 1999, Reconnaissance Company was Assigned at Brgy Rizal, Batuan, Bohol with AOR comprising municipalities of Carmen, Bilar, Balilihan and part of Dagohoy and Sevilla.

            On 141445 August 1999, One (1) squad led by MSg Rolando G Abastilla (Inf) PA, conducted raid operations to the said enemy Camp located at vicinity Brgy Rosariohan, GC 206843 Batuan, Bohol, with fifteen (15) minutes firefight which resulted to the recovery of four (4) M16A1 rifles, one (1) M14 US rifle, one (1) M1 Garand rifle, one Caliber 38 Revolver, one (1) Handheld Radio (ICOM C-02N), one (1) rifle Grenade, five (5) long &thirteen (13) short Magazines for M16 rifle, four (4) Magazines for M14 rifle, three (3) clips for Garand rifle, 320 rounds of 5.56mm Anmmo, 80 rounds of 7.62mm Ammo, 24 rounds Ammo for M1 Garand, half sack of subversive documents, assorted tablet of Medicines, five (5) bandoleers, one (1) walkman radio, one (1) AM/FM transistor radio and three (3) improvised backpacks full of personal effects and captured three (3) DT’s, two (2) of whom were wounded.

            On 14 September 1999, 81st Reconnaissance Campany relieved as OPCON Task Group Bohol and moved out Brgy Rizal, Batuan towards Tagbilarann City.

            On 17 September 1999, 81st Reconnaissance Company left Tagbilaran City ppier on board Navy LST towards Cebu City. The unit was  placed OPCON Task Group Sugbo, VISCOM with AOR comprising the municipality of Asturias, Tuburan, Tabuelan, Danao, Carmen and Catmon.

            On 01 January 2000, CPT ENART MARIO R LELINA (INF) PA, the Commanding Officer of 81st Reconnaissance Company, 8th Infantry division, Philippine Army was relieved pursuant to para 4 General Order Number 07 H8ID, PA dated 12 January 2002 on same date 1LT FRANCISCO L MOLINA JR (QMS) PA, is designated as Commanding Officer of 81st Reconnaissance Company.

            On 29 June 2000, 81st Reconnaissance Company was relieved as OPCON Task Group Sugbu and left Benito Air Base on board C-130 Aircraft towards Tacloban City. The unit was placed OPCON Task Foce LEYSAM and established company headquarters at Brgy Lale, Pinabacdao,Samar with AOR comprising the municipalities of Calbiga, San Sebastian, Villareal and Talalora.

            On 12 January 2001, 81st Reconnaissanc3e Company was relieved as OPCON Task Force Leysam and placed OPCON 803rd Infantry Brigade with Company Hqs located at Brgy San Juan, San Isidro, Northern, Samar with AOR comprising the municipalities of San Isisdro And Victoria.

            On 11 March 2001, 81st Recon Coy was relieved as OPCON 803rd Infantry Brigade and placed OPCON 802nd Infantry Brigade effective on same date.

            On 14 March 2001, 81st Reconnaissance Company moved out from Brgy San Juan, San Isidro, Northern Samar and established company CP at Brgy Polangi, Taft, Eastern Samar effective 15 March 2001.

            On 22 September 2001, 81st Reconnaissance Company moved out from Brgy Polangi, Taft, Eastern Samar and establish Company CP at Brgy Antipolo, Albuera, Leyte effective 23 September 2001.

            On 09 March 2002, 81st Reconnaissance Company was relieved as  OPCON 802nd Infantry Brigade and placed OPCON 803rd Infantry Brigade with Company Hqs located at Brgy San Juan, San Isidro, Northern Samar with AOR comprising the municipalities of San Isidro and Victoria.

            On 09 April 2002, 81st Reconnaissance Company was relieved as OPCON 803rd Infantry Brigade and placed OPCON 34th Infantry Brigade, 8th Infantry Division, Philippine Army with Company TCP located at Brgy Camaroboan, Jiabong, Samar with AOR comprising the municipalities of Motiong, Jiabong and Paranas.

            On 05 May 2002, 81st Reconnaissance Company moved out from Brgy  Camaroboan, Jiabong, Samar and established Company TCP at Brgy Lawaan, Paranas, Samar AOR.

            On 19 May 2002, 81st Reconnaissance Company moved out from B rgy Lawaan, Paranas, Samar and established its Company TCP at Brgy Calapi, Motiong, Samar.

            On 01 June 2002, ILT FRANCISCO L MOLINA JR (QMS) PA, THE commanding Officer of 81st Recon Coy, 8th Infantry Division, Philippine Army was relieved on same date ILT ROLLY L FACUN (INF) PA, was designated as Commanding Officer.

            On 08 February 2003, 81 Recon Coy was relieved as OPCON 34th Infantry Battalion  and OPCON 803rd Infantry Brigade as the brigade striking force with Company TCP collocated with the brigade Hqs at Camp Sumoroy, Catarman, Northern, Samar.

            On 24 March 2004, 1LT ROLLY L FACUN (INF) PA, the Commanding Officer of 81st Recon Company, 8th Infantry Division, Philippine Army was relieved. On same date 2LT FELMAX B LODRIGUITO JR (INF) PA, was designated as Officer–In–Charge of  the unit.

            On 27 April 2004, 81st Recon Coy moved out from 803rd Infantry Brigade Camp Sumoroy, Catarman, Northern Samar towards Camp Daza, Fatima, Hinabangan, Samar and was placed OPCON to 801st Infantry Brigade.

            On 25 June 2004, 2LT FELMAX B LODRIGUITO JR (INF) PA, the  officer-in-charge  of 81st Recon Coy, 8th Infantry Division, Philippine Army was relieved on same date 1LT DENNIS C ALMORATO (INF) PA, was designated as Commanding Officer of the unit.

            On 25 august 2004, ILT DENNIS C ALMORATO (INF) PA was relieved as Commanding Officer of the unit, on same date CPT CEFERINO M LOGRONIO JR (INF) PA, was designated Commanding Officer of this unit as of this date.

            On 04 November 2004, CPT CEFERINO M LOGRONO JR (INF) PA, the Commanding Officer of 81st Recon Coy moved out from Camp Daza, Hionabangan, Samar and established temporary command post at vicinity Brgy Borong, Calbiga, Wsamar and was placed OPCON to Task Group BANTAY AT GABAY.

            On 270900 February 2005, one (1) platoon under CPT CEFERINO M LOGRONO JR (INF) PA, THE commanding Officer of 81st Reconnaissance Company, conducted raid operations on enemy camp located at Sitio Pananyog, Brgy Dalosdoson vicinity GC 299887 Hinabangan, Wsamar with estimated more or less eighteen (18) CTs firefight lasted for twenty (20) minutes which resulted to the recovery of one (1) M16 rifle SN 4908171, one (1) Sharp Lap Tap computer, one (1) AIWA VCD player, one (1) Sony Television, one (1) Honda EZ 1400 Electric Generator, one (1) Civilian Telescope, one (1) typewriter and assorted Medicine, Voluminous subversive documents with high intelligence value.

            On 07 April 2005, 81st Reconnaissance Company was  placed OPCON to 62nd Infantry Battalion, 8th Infantry Division, Philippine Army, covering the municipalities of Hinabangan, Calbiga and Pinabacdao all of Western Samar in campaign against the insurgency within the region.

            On 28 July 2005, 81st Reconnaissance Company left 62nd Infantry Battalion, 8th Infantry, Philippine Army, Brgy Polangi, Calbiga, Western Samar and was placed Opcon to Hqs 801st Bde, PA covering the municipalities of Taft, Can-avid, and Dolores all of Eastern Samar in Campaign against the insurgency within the region.

            On 100935 August 2005, one (1) Pltn (+) under 2LT ANDRES and 2LT LANSANG (INF) PA, This unit, together with personnel of 8MIB led by Sgt Cofuentes (Inf) PA, encountered MOL 25 CTs at vicinityGC567192, Brgy Del Remidios, Taft, ESamar. Said encounter lasted for fourty five (45) minutes result of encounters: gov’t side – Negative ; enemy side undetermined wounded due to blood stain in encounter area recovered cln two (2) US rifle Cal 5.56mm M16A1 SN: 3401025, 180594 and one (1) US rifle cal 5.56mm M16A1 Deface, two (2) US rifle cal M14 SN: 1132316, 18430700, and one (1) M1 Garand rifle SN:2329161, subversive documents with high intelligence value, CTs personal belongings, kitchen utensils and foodstuffs. 

            On 24 July 2006, one (1) sec of Command Group of this unit under TSg Dela Cruz left Polangi Company CP, Taft, ESamar, purposely to relief in placed 14IB and established Company CP at Poblacion, Motiong, Western Samar.

            On 26 July 2006, 81st DRC, completed the pull out of troops and assumed the new AOR covering the municipalities of Motiong, Jiabong and Paranas all of Western Samar.

            On 15 January 2007, 1LT CEFERINO M LOGRONO (INF) PA, was relieved as Commanding Officer of the unit on same date.

            On 11 February 2007, 81st DRC composed of one (1) officer and eighty seven (87) EP led by 1LT ANDRES INF PA on board C-130 airplane left 8ID AOR and transported to Jolo, Sulu in compliance to higher heaquarters as directed. The unit was TACON to 10th Bde, 1ID at Kuta Heneral Teodolfo Bautista, Busbus, Jolo, Sulu.

            On 13 February 2007, the 81st DRC was assumed new AOR covering the Brgys Langpas, Timbagan, and Bunot all of Indanan, Sulu; Bud Datu, Brgy Tagbak of Jolo, Sulu and Silangkan of Parang, Sulu.

            On 05 July2007, 81st DRC on board one (1) C-130 aircraft sent back to 8ID AOR with three (3) officers and one hundred (100) EP. The unit honored of 8ID Command by sent back Ceremony infront of the Division Headquarters by MGEN ARMANDO L CUNANAN AFP, CG, 8ID, PA.

            On 24 July 2007, 81st DRC, 8ID, PA left H8ID, PA, Camp Lukban, Brgy Maulong, Catbalogan City proceeded towards H52IB, 8ID, PA, Sitio Cantaba, Brgy Caticugan, Sta Rita, WSamar and established temporary command post thereat and placed  OPCON to H801Bde, 8ID, PA.

            On 05 November 2007, 81st DRC, 8ID, PA left H52IB, 8ID, PA, Sitio Cantaba, Brgy Caticugan, Sta Rita, WSamar and proceeded towards Brgy Waso, Llorente, Eastern Samar and established temporary command post threat and placed OPCON to H14IB, 8ID, PA.

            On 10 January 2008, 81st DRC, was relieved (OPCON)  to H14IB, 8ID, PA and placed OPCON to H62IB, 8ID, PA on 15 January 2008, 81st DRC left vicinity Brgy Waso, Llorente, Eastern Samar and proceeded towards vicinity Brgy Loyo, Basey, Western Samar where it is presently located.
